Early
1980s |
In his early teens, ken Kitano buys
his first camera and begins submitting works to photography contests.
As his interest in the world of photography grows from hight school
on, he begins to collect books and works by and about such noted
Japanese photographers as Ken Domon, Daido Moriyama, and Ikko Narahara,
as well as foreign artists.

Upon entering Nihon University's College of Industrial
Technology, he joins the photography club and, while on a joint
picture-taking outing, visits the deserted artificial island Gunkanjima,
which he later returns to, alone, a half a dozen times. First exhibit
in the Kanto Student Photographers' Exhibition.

| 1990 |
Begins the series of Tokyo cityscapes and photographic
records he came to call 'Yooyusuru Tosi'(City Flow and Fusion).Joins
sessions of a photographic criticism circle known as 491.' Encouraged
by the noted art critic Tatsuo Fukushima, Ken Kitano bigins developing
more confidence in his own photography and worldview.
Enters Intense Inc., a commercial photography production company.

| 1993 |
Leaves Intense Inc. to become a freelance photographer.
Travels for a month and a half in India beginning in February. Visits
Varanasi (Benares) and Hardwar, cities in Uttar Pradesh along the
Ganges, where people's faces and the river's rapid current inspire
and awakening in his a sense of ime's depthand diversity.

'Yooyuusuru Toshi'(City Flow and Fusion), a one-man
show,opens at the ICAC Weston Gallery in Tokyo.

| 1996 |
Contributes to the First Young Portfolio Exhibition
at the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts.
Second trip to India.

Contributes to the Second Young Portfolio Exhibition
at the Kiyosato Musium of Photographic Arts. Exhibition at the San
Marino Italia. (San Marino International Photomeeting)
